Allen loves to sing with other people. He grew up in Tennessee, North Carolina, and Alabama, and in those places, sang in church and school choirs, and performed in musical theatre. He studied voice at Loyola University in New Orleans, and at the Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara, California. Allen teaches Elementary Music in Greater Victoria, and is happy to be part of the VICC.
Gary got his love of music from his father Bill and started singing at the age of ten. Over the years he’s had the privilege of being in many choirs singing different kinds of music. Choral, chamber, jazz and Rock and roll. He sang in Europe, Whitehorse and all over BC in different ensembles. He was an active singer and board member of Kathaumixw in Powell River for many years. His real focus is in smaller groups now and his last was a men’s acappella quartet.
Mel grew up singing in the church choir and continued with a number of ensembles in his university years. After his undergrad degree he got distracted with farming, back country adventures, family and then a career in International Development. When he moved to Victoria some years back he resolved to get back at singing and joined Linden Singers and then later the Victoria Philharmonic Choir. Looking for a more intimate experience he auditioned and was accepted by the VICC a few years back and is loving it.
Bio coming soon.
Adam is originally from Waterloo, Ontario where he grew up singing at church as well as his high school music program. He currently sings at Fairfield United Church and the Catholic Ordinariate in Esquimalt. In addition to performing, Adam teaches music lessons out of his home studio AD Music and at the Taber Music School. He is also a lead instructor for the online teaching platform Singdaptive. Adam loves the collaborative aspect of singing in a choir and making music with others. Apart from music he loves cooking and spending time in nature.
Steve began making music at the age of nine in a small town English brass band, followed by three decades wrestling with the beautiful but treacherous French Horn! In his mid fifties he began voice lessons and spent fifteen years with Toronto’s award winning Exultate Chamber Singers and small professional church ensembles. Moving to Victoria in 2016 he joined the Pacific Opera chorus and is now in his seventh season. In his previous life Steve enjoyed a forty year career as a producer with CBC where his radio documentaries won many Canadian and international awards. These days he can usually be found at Moka coffee in Cook St. Village humming and mumbling his way through tricky bits of music with the help of a medium latte (extra hot). Fun fact: sang role of Strephon in 1971 production of G and S, “Iolanthe” in Malawi, Africa. Current motto: “extinct and loving it”!
Reid grew up in Vancouver and has been singing for most of his life. After high school, he lived stateside for 7ish years, earning two math and computer science degrees on two different coasts, while doing some choral and a cappella singing on the side. He found his way back to Vancouver and sang with Chor Leoni for several years. After moving to Victoria in 2022, he decided to look for a smaller ensemble, and attending one fantastic VICC concert was all it took - he had to audition! He's excited to be among this great group of people and to create more of that delicious vocal harmony.
