Laura started taking piano and voice lessons when she was 12, sung in high school choirs, and played flute in concert band. Thanks to her high school music program, she ended up studying voice at UVic and completed a B.Mus. Now she works in the public service but really appreciates being able to sing in a choir as a hobby. Laura loves cooking and gardening, her dream is to be able to grow all her own produce for her household!
Dharini has always had a great passion for music. She started piano, violin, and voice classes at a young age and her school choir was invited to sing evensong at some of the great English cathedrals. As an adult, a career in international development made keeping up with her music more difficult, but Dharini continues to dabble a bit in non-Western music when she has the time, including trying to learn the djembe, sitar and veena. Dharini also loves hiking with her dog, cycling, dancing and playing tennis. and playing tennis.
Margaret grew up in Lethbridge, Alberta where she sang in various choirs. She later graduated from nursing school in Lethbridge, moved to Edmonton, and sang with the Da Camera Singers as well as Pro Coro Canada. She has sung with Soundings and Ensemble Laude. She works as an RN at the eye clinic at Royal jubalee Hospital. The best thing about music is the lifetime friends she has made.
Esmée first picked up a wooden recorder in grade 3 at school and became hooked on music. Since then she has been singing, playing recorder and flute in small ensembles, choirs, bands and orchestras. Esmée will always remember the time she and her friends were out Christmas caroling on a cold snowy night in Ottawa, and unexpectedly ended up at 24 Sussex Drive singing carols with Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau around his Christmas tree.
Connie is a “choir commuter”, coming from Duncan to join the choir. After graduating from UBC in 19__-well , a long time ago- with a B. Mus in Voice Performance—she eventually settled in Duncan . For almost 40 years she raised a family, fostered many children and worked part-time teaching voice and piano in her home studio. During that time , she also became employed as Music Director at Duncan United Church, and conducted several choirs. Over the past few years she has also enjoyed specializing in teaching piano to students on the autism spectrum, and working as Musical Director with the Cowichan Musical Society productions. She is currently teaching one day a week and continues as Church Music Director, but now has time available to sing with the VICC which she is totally excited about.
Rhonwen has always loved to sing… to herself, in countless choirs and ensembles, and on the opera stage. At UBC she sang with the U Singers and received her BMus in Opera Performance, then after some adventures abroad moved to Toronto. She sang with the Canadian Opera Chorus for five years before moving into entertaining seniors as a solo singer/ukulele act. Now a psychotherapist, she recently moved back to BC with husband, son and little dog, Peach. She is just thrilled to be living in this beautiful city, where she is finding a better balance, taking up canoeing, and reconnecting with her love of vocal music.
